Edgy Side

My personal style tends to be characterized by fun girly pieces, but sometimes (and especially living in this city) my edgy side likes to come out. Faux leather, a slouchy sweater, and angular earrings create a slightly toughened outfit vibe, but the sweet monogrammed necklace, crochet lace, and striped bag soften the look just enough for my style. I couldn't wait until warmer weather to wear this new lace-trimmed crop top, so pairing it with a high waisted leather skirt (last seen here) makes it seasonably appropriate for a 50 degree day in March. The gray, black, and white color scheme matched the overcast day and city sidewalks, feeling very New York!

Orange Heel, Two Ways

I love a good colored heel, and I have been pining after this pair of coral-orange d'orsay heels for quite a while now. While they will have to wait on my wishlist a while longer, I am dreaming of ways to wear them.

(w's anyone? lol)

orange heel casual

The first look is a casual daytime ensemble that I pictured paired with this heel. I imagine a relaxed jean, long loose tank and a semi-structured jacket to create a casual chic outfit.

Orange heel dressy

The second way I envision these heels is with the BB Dakota Lief Dress, a shift dress with an incredibly flattering fit and slant pockets. Flirty wink earrings and a chic clutch make this a perfect combination for a night out.

Keeping a black and white color scheme keeps the looks clean and really lets the orange heels pop, but it would be fun to pair them with soft pastels or vibrant blues too!

Neon Pink

What better way to step into spring than with a brand new pair of hot pink heels?! I couldn't pass these up when I spotted them at Kate Spade last week: not only are they the hot pink I've always dreamed of, but they have the perfect little 1" heel for someone tall like me. I wanted to dress them down for champagne hour at work, so I wore them with distressed jeans, a cropped sweater and faux fur vest. I also couldn't resist the opportunity to match my necklace with my heels...

An afternoon stroll by the water was the perfect way to celebrate the warm spring air and break in my new beauties.

White Wool

This skirt is my favorite for early spring, as evidenced by the fact that I wore it in a post  around this time last year. I am always a little hesitant to wear white in winter (although I always love it other people!) but once we hit March and I have spring on my mind it seems like the perfect time to bring out this wool skirt. The air is still chilly, so thicker fabrics are still necessary, but I can start to bring out some lighter brighter pieces since the snow is all melted and the sun is creeping out.

Since the white pencil mini is a bit formal pairing it with a casual striped tee keeps the look more approachable. Also a little stripes with polkadots is always a fun mix!

Grey Day and Gold

My latest obsession: these earrings. When I saw them I knew I had to have them. Not only are ear jackets currently trendy, but this pair is so delicate and yet modern. Designed in collaboration with Wendy of the infamous Wendy's Lookbook blog, these earrings are the perfect mix of feminine and edgy, timeless and of-the-moment. I love that they are not too dramatic, which suits my style perfectly. I paired them with a simple sweater-dress last week to accentuate their simple and delicate aspects, and really let the gold jewelry pop.

Something Green

Since tomorrow is St. Patrick's Day I thought I'd share a bit of festive inspiration today. I felt like taking a more subtle approach this year, and instead of getting all decked out in a green outfit I'm keeping the color in the accessories. I'm never one to miss a chance to get dressed up for a holiday, but keeping it simple with a neutral palette and pops of green felt like a fresh approach. The soft white is undeniably spring-y and the leopard boots add a touch of edge to the look.

How are you celebrating this year?

Casual Statement

These gorgeous earrings make a bold statement, but I wanted to dress them down with a casual outfit that I could wear all day. Pairing them with a slouchy navy shimmer top and jeans did just the trick. To keep the dressy/casual balance even, I curled my hair but kept other jewelry to a minimum. The outfit is simple but the earrings give it a definite pop and the pink certainly stands out against all the navy.

An oversized lace-overlayed bag adds a finishing touch and maintains the blue color scheme. As you can probably tell, my bag weighed about 1000 pounds… I had it packed to the gills and even my laptop in there!

On Trend: The Pink Couch

Photo on the left is my apartment, photo on the right is the Kate Spade store on Madison Ave.

When I moved into my new apartment I went with a bold couch choice: pink! The color adds a touch of playful brightness and femininity to the living space, but it can be hard to match accent without getting too eclectic. So, I knew instantly that I wanted to do graphic black and white accent pillows against the pink.

Flash forward to last weekend, shopping at the Kate Spade store on Madison ave: Lo and behold they have hot pink plush couches throughout the store (that I am in love with by the way)! Incidentally they took the same approach to styling the pink couchs, piling them with whimsical black and white pillows featuring cute sayings! I'm tempted to add some pillows from their collection to my decor too....

Anyway, I was super excited when I realized how trendy my decorating instincts were. If Kate Spade does it, you know I'll love it! (lol)

What do you think of the pink couch trend? How would you style it?

Shop My Closet!

You may have noticed already.... I added a feature to my sidebar where you can shop items directly out of my closet, including some pieces seen on the blog! It's that time of year again where I get a bit of the "spring cleaning" bug and start editing my wardrobe. Anything I don't need anymore, or love but just never wear is going to be added to my Poshmark page, so keep checking back for the latest additions!  I know that I have a ton of stuff back home that I will be listing as soon as I get my hands on it, including a few pairs of super cute heels that just never fit me right.

If you're not familiar with Poshmark, it's a site to buy and sell clothing and accessories, kind of like an eBay specifically for fashion. There is a lot of super cute stuff available, and sellers are often willing to negotiate prices! I signed up last year when I was on the hunt for this Kate Spade bow watch and was trying to find it at a reasonable price. I've always wished I had a place to sell my old clothes instead of just giving them away (especially the expensive pieces), and now I have found the perfect site!

Check out what I have for sale here. Happy Shopping!

Snowflakes and Florals

I had to get one last good wear out of my velvet pants and fur scarf before they're completely out of season, but in anticipation of a much needed Spring, I wanted to pair them with something a little more springy on top. A pretty floral print and light chambray did just the trick. The deep navy and all-season blush in the tee mix well with wintery tones and textures, but still keep the look fresh. A few fluffy snowflakes coming down as I shot these photos last week completed the mood.

It's a shame that you can't see the shape of this kimono-inspired top, but I'm sure as soon as it's warm enough for short sleeves it'll be back at the top of my wear-list. I love the color combo and the loose silhouette is so easy to wear, I can't wait to throw it on with shorts for a quick but put-together summery look.
