Street Style at NYFW

I had just a little time this week to head down to Moynihan Station to catch some of the comings and goings at the NYFW events. It's always fun to see what people are wearing, and this time I even caught a lot of the runway models' street style as they exited at the end of the show. Wild hair was the name of the game for the Naeem Khan runway show, and the models left looking very windswept!

Luckily, even amid all the necessary winter outerwear, Fashion Week goers found ways to incorporate plenty of color into their style. The weather wasn't too terribly cold so attendees were able to show off their looks with open jackets in an array of prints and furs. I myself wore the vintage coat I posted about here, with leather leggings, OTK boots, and a touch of faux fur.

Charmed: One Necklace, Three Ways

I bought this charm collar necklace when September's NYFW had me thinking of ways to spice up my outfits with unique and interesting pieces. Chokers have been making a big come back, but they will always remind me the 90's and 2000's when I wore them with bell-bottoms and blue eye shaddow (thanks fashion, for bringing back the awkward memories...). I have mostly avoided the choker come-back, but this particular piece stood out to me. The dangling charms and structured gold wire brings a certain elevated edge to the piece that I like. That edgy yet sophisticated feel adds an element of 'cool' to your outfit, and I'll bet you'd never guess where it's from: Banana Republic!

One thing I was unsure about was what types of necklines I could wear this necklace with. It turns out that it works perfectly with a few different styles. I love the way it compliments a high neckline by bringing a bit of sparkle to the neck and resting just along the fabric. This is my favorite way to wear it, with high neck dresses, tanks, and crewneck tees. I like that it blends in with the neckline when they fall at the same spot, but still adds a unique touch.

For a more statement look that definitely evokes a 90's vibe, I paired the collar necklace with a low scoop neck top. Anything that exposes the collarbone, like a scoop or v-neck tee, will show off a choker and draw attention to the neck. For this look, I paired a long tank with slouchy distressed jeans and ankle booties for a tough-girl look offset by soft curls and hot pink lips.

The third neckline that I discovered works incredibly well with a charmed choker, is the split-neck or button-down style. The shirt itself comes up high on the neck but with an opening at the front it allows the necklace to peek through and add a little sparkle. I like the subtlety of this combination and the way it incorporates the necklace into a dressier, more formal outfit.

Necklace: Banana Republic (also like this and this). Earrings: Gorjana.

Split Neck: Top: Old Navy. Jeans: J Brand. OTK Boots: Sam Edelman. Lip: e.l.f "Pink Umbrellas."

Suede Skirt

Button up skirts are a huge trend this fall, in suede or in denim. I happen to love the a-line fit of skirts like these (not gonna fly up in the wind, but not too tight either) so I went ahead and jumped on this trend band-wagon with a black suede version. Another trend that was huge this summer, the off-the-shoulder look, creeped its way into this outfit too. With such a simple and streamlined black and white outfit I tossed in some bolder accessories, like this chunky necklace, gold heeled sandals, and fringe bag. I wore this look while photographing street style at New York Fashion Week.

As you can see I've given in just a touch to the idea that fall is coming...

Suede skirt: Olivaceous (more options 1/2/3). Top: H&M (1/2). Bag: Rebecca Minkoff. Shoes: Ellen Tracy. Sunglasses: Urban Outfitters. Necklace: J. Crew (1/2). Bracelets: handmade in Senegal.

Style Stalking

If you like fashion one of the best things to do during NYFW is to grab your camera and camp out in front of a fashion week event hall for a few hours. You're guaranteed to see some amazing and interesting outfits, and probably a few celebs and bloggers too. I had such a blast snapping photos of my favorite looks this past week, and taking inspiration from all of the extraordinary outfit choices. I wanted to wrap up my fave looks with another post dedicated to street style, so here you go!

Pink & Blue at NYFW

Photos by Jennifer of Jennesis of Chic

Statement skirts are always a hit at Fashion Week with long silhouettes or fun prints often a street style favorite. While I was out capturing the phenomenal street style that NYFW draws on camera I dressed up a bit too. "See and be seen," you know!

I went with this swingy white midi skirt knowing that I wanted to pair my outfit with hot pink heels. Keeping the top simple allowed for lots of color in the accessories balancing pink and blue against each other. Initially I wanted to pair the pink with a rich cobalt blue but I couldn't make the outfit work, so I substituted this pretty teal shade creating a brighter color palette. The details ended up working perfectly together, with elements such as the quilted texture on both the skirt and the clutch coordinating. While I debated a few other fab shoe options for NYFW (see them on my Instagram), I love any chance to wear these bright Kate Spade beauties!

Skirt: similar. Top: BB Dakota. Shoes: kate spade (1/2. see the last time I wore these here). Earrings: kate spade. Bracelet: J.Crew. Clutch: 1/2.

NYFW Street Style Snapshots

It's that time of year again! NYFW is taking over the city (and my instagram feed) and I couldn't resist swinging by to snap a few photos of the always-fabulous street style worn by show-goers.
Take a peek at some of my favorite looks from Friday. Bold prints, mixing textures and colors, and fun fringe are some of the highlights.
