Stripes and Skirts

The Little Orange Dress is now two years going! Last week was the official "blogiversary" but I am celebrating today with this dressy skirt and pink jacket look. I wore this top last week with a more casual outfit and edgier vibe by throwing a leather jacket over it, but today tucking it into a midi skirt with pink and cream tones it takes on a softer look. I love the tailored cut of this jacket and the soft pink shade, it's so romantic especially when paired with a skirt or dress. Wedge booties are the perfect addition this time of year for a dressy look while still keeping your toes covered! A neutral and pretty palette is both festive and wintery for celebrating two years of the blog this February.

Zipper Details

I just love the shade of cobalt blue of this sweater. It adds a nice touch of color to the wintery neutrals I've been mostly wearing lately, while still feeling like an appropriate seasonal shade. I love how the zippers add just a little something extra to the sweater, and the gold tone paired nicely with my metallic manicure. The bright color called for some sparkly earrings in a matching hue. The sweater cuts short in the front so I thought it would be cute to layer with a lacy tank, then add dark jeans and booties to finish the look.

Cocoon

The pattern on this long open sweater reminds me of animal print, but it is very subtle and sophisticated mixed in with the stripes. That and the drapey cocoon silhouette make it a great throw on because it is comfy and still cute. I love that because of the two tones in the pattern I can wear it with black and with brown, even at the same time. My favorite way to wear the sweater is just how I paired it in the photos, with this black tee and my short brown boots. Add a long gold necklace and it becomes an easy and stylish outfit to throw on in the morning. It is a very neutral colored outfit, but it looks nice with my hair!

Weekly Wardrobe

Another week's worth of outfits! I am lucky enough to have Mondays off this month, but I have been working some weekend hours instead. It's so funny to me how everyone has been dressing for fall despite the quite warm temps we had last week! Even myself, as you can see! As I am writing now it is finally starting to feel more like the fall I am used to with crisp cool air that makes your fingers and ears cold!

Chambray for Anything

You know those times when you're going to an event or place you've never been to before and you don't know how dressy or casual you should dress? This was one of those times. My friends and I were going to a late night comedy show, and I really had no idea what was appropriate to wear. Do people get dressed up for these events? Like going-out dressed up, or nice and classy dressed up? Or, is it like a bunch of comedians casually hanging out kind of vibe, in which case I don't want to feel overdressed? 

To try and dress for that anything can be very hard, but I did my best by creating this cute skirt and chambray combination. I ended up loving the result. The skirt can be dressy, with the touch of gold stripes, but I kept it grounded with a causal white tank and chambray tied over it. Thats the beauty of a chambray shirt, they can really go with just about anything, and add a casual touch to skirts and dresses. The long necklace added interest and tied the whole look together. In this outfit, I'm ready for anything!

Fashion (Week) Footwear

After I'd had a taste, I couldn't resist stopping by the NYFW festivities again for a few hours, before the week came to a close. I just loved drinking in the culture of the event and seeing all the awe-inspiring outfits. I switched gears from my girly white dress on my first visit, to funky heels and coated black jeans for this second trip down town. I balanced the edgy bold black with a light pink peplum top and sparkly earrings to soften the look. I also tried something different with my hair: parted in the middle so the darker color shows, and pulled back into a low bun. I'm not sure I love it, but hey, Fashion Week is a great time to try something new, am I right? These heels were the cornerstone for this outfit since they epitomize New York fashion in my mind, and I can't wait to wear them again and again.

Show Some Skin

Last week I shared my new way of wearing an open backed top, layered with a chiffon tank, but this week I wanted to show a little skin. I found this strappy white bralette crop top which works really well under the open-backed top as it creates a pretty distraction from any bra straps while really showing off the open back. And, since the bralette is white, it barely shows through in the front! Throwing on my favorite summery bracelet from Hipanema and some bright cut-offs creates a fun casual festival look. I love this combination for a warm summery day, and we've been having quite a few of those lately which makes me very happy!

Ditsy Floral

I've always wondered why we call floral prints 'ditsy' since ditsy is a word often used to describe a girl who's got her head in the clouds. Dictionary.com uses the word "flighty" which I think is a great synonym to capture the meaning of the word ditsy--but what does that have to do with floral prints?

When I googled my question I found this definition of a ditsy print: "A ditsy print is quite small in scale, and the design motifs are usually scattered or random rather than being ordered in a definable pattern like rows or stripes."Apparently it doesn't have to be floral, although that seems to be its most frequent form. So maybe the dress I'm wearing here isn't actually a ditsy print (I don't know, is the print small enough or random enough?) but it did get me thinking about what a ditsy floral is and what that description even means.

My floral dress probably makes me look like a ditsy girl too with its short skirt and ruffle at the neckline, but it was one of those 'I can't leave without it' items on a shopping trip a few years ago in college. Adding pale neutrals and a delicate necklace creates a very girly yet thoughtful ensemble. As you may have noticed, this dress is quite short on me, so I only wear it in the spring and fall when the air is cool enough to wear it with tights or leggings. These cute little cut-out booties are just perfect with a casual dress, and I'm so glad its finally dress weather so I can wear this combination.
