Leather Weather

For a trendy spin on casual I swapped out the usual simple black leggings for faux leather jeggings with my flannel shirt. The sheen of the trendy faux leather helped dress up the outfit a little bit (since clearly flannel and a teeshirt with leggings is a lazy, comfy go-to) and the heel on the booties enhanced that vibe too. That way I can be perfectly comfy without looking "lazy." Just a little upgrade-trade or adding a trendy touch can make even your favorite simple outfit that much more chic.

Workweek

Since I didn't have a lot of time to take any real outfit photos this past week I thought it would be fun to snap a quick pic of my outfit before I ran out the door to work each morning. So here goes, these are the outfits I wore to work this week! It is really feeling like fall now, but even so we've had a few warmer days that allowed for skirts and bare legs. That is the best kind of fall weather in my opinion, just cool enough for cozy sweaters and booties, but not yet too cold for skirts and dresses.

Chambray for Anything

You know those times when you're going to an event or place you've never been to before and you don't know how dressy or casual you should dress? This was one of those times. My friends and I were going to a late night comedy show, and I really had no idea what was appropriate to wear. Do people get dressed up for these events? Like going-out dressed up, or nice and classy dressed up? Or, is it like a bunch of comedians casually hanging out kind of vibe, in which case I don't want to feel overdressed? 

To try and dress for that anything can be very hard, but I did my best by creating this cute skirt and chambray combination. I ended up loving the result. The skirt can be dressy, with the touch of gold stripes, but I kept it grounded with a causal white tank and chambray tied over it. Thats the beauty of a chambray shirt, they can really go with just about anything, and add a casual touch to skirts and dresses. The long necklace added interest and tied the whole look together. In this outfit, I'm ready for anything!

Spring Skirt Season

Just a few quick photos on the go today with my iPhone… It was warm enough to wear a skirt today, although with many other layers including tights, a chambray button down, and a scarf. To walk outside a light jacket was necessary, but I am finally free of my winter coat!! Hooray, spring is in the air! I am so excited to start wearing skirts and dresses regularly now that the temperature is a little more forgiving.

I was a little hesitant about wearing a white skirt with dark tights, but by wearing tall boots and adding another dark color on top with the scarf, and since the tights were patterned, it felt balanced and acceptable. What do you think? The skirt is kind of a winter white and it is wool so I deemed it appropriate to wear with dark wintery accents, as well as the sunny pop of pink of the cami peeping out. 

I saw people wearing tee shirts and flip flops again today, and we left our door open for a while at work, but it did get rather chilly with the door open! As tempting as it is to break out the flip flops I'd rather stay warm! I did see one day next week forecast for 70 degrees though… I am hoping the weatherman is right about that one!

#SelfieSaturday

Ok, I’ll be honest, I may have taken a lot of selfies on vacation in Florida. (I know, I know, how ridiculous and self-absorbed of me). I didn’t want to be that annoying girl constantly asking my friends to take pictures of me (“can you take a picture of me in front on that tree? Can you take a picture of me in front of that building? And in front of that rock?”), so instead I was that annoying girl who was constantly taking pictures of myself. I just needed to document the trip and my cute outfits, you know? Don't judge, we've all done it. Plus, that new #Selfie song by The Chainsmokers was playing constantly and may have encouraged me… (I'm sorry. Really).

Anyway, I just wanted to share a few more photos from my trip to Florida before we get back to the cold weather and bundled outfits I am forced to post about at home. Since it was in the 70's while I was there with no humidity and lots of wind I wore a lot more long sleeves than I had expected to, but it was sure as heck better than -16 wind chills that I am experiencing now!  I had a really good time in the sun, and I wish I could go back already!

Please excuse my tired face, I literally woke up, put a swimsuit on and went to the beach. But I had to take a photo of how curly my hair was!! I went to bed with damp hair and this is how it looked when I woke up. Amazing.

A Brief Respite

After a long and especially cold winter, a week in the sun was a much needed break!

Many people may be surprised by the fact that there is still well over a foot of snow where I live, that most days in March don't get over 40 degrees, and that as 'hardy' New Englanders we know not to expect any major changes for the warmer for at least another month! For all of those reasons I needed a change from the cold and snow, so I took a trip to Florida with a good friend to soak up a little sun and warm weather. And boy, was in worth it! It was very windy while we were there, but just being able to walk barefoot on the beach, read by the pool, and wear shorts and dresses that haven't left my closet since September felt so good. I couldn't wait to wear my pink crop jeans and this sassy little daisy print top. I'll admit, I jumped on that trend train for spring, and I even noticed a few other girls in Daytona Beach wearing daisy prints too! 

Traveling between climates always poses a challenge when you are trying to pack light. I opted to wear as many pieces as I could re-wear in Florida, such as light wash jeans, a cute t-shirt, and a chambray button down. I also had to layer on a light jacket, scarf, and sneakers to stay somewhat warm getting to and from the airport. Trying to look fashionable while traveling can be quite a challenge especially when all you want is to be comfortable and warm. Layering basics with cute pops of color or pattern is a good rule to follow, which I tried to do here. This chambray shirt goes with literally everything (I can't believe I've been missing out on this basic for so long!) and I even took the style risk of wearing it with jeans… what do you think, did I pull it off?
