Neutrals and Neons

Opposites attract so they say, and what could be more opposite than neutrals and neons. I'll often add unexpected pops to an otherwise monochromatic outfit like this one so I can never be called boring! These bold dual-printed shorts require a simple top that lets them do all the talking, but then I like to mix things up with some bright and colorful accents. I kept additional prints to a minimum and focused instead on bringing bits of color into the look with this vibrant clutch and neon nails. Pretty pink sunglasses contributed a touch of color too, and keeping my hair braided let the ruffled top really stand out.

These statement making shorts were last seen here with a similar white-top-and-fun-accessories combo. An easy yet exciting outfit like this, made up of simple yet unique pieces, is perfect for a stroll in the park and adventures in the city.

Sporty

Making a total 360 from last week's classic & feminine look...

One word that I would pretty much never use to describe my style is 'sporty.' Yet, once in a while when I want a casual and comfortable outfit sportswear starts to creep it's way into my look. I have always struggled with finding shoes that are comfortable, since I have really sensitive feet, and recently I have been on the hunt for comfy sneakers that I can mix into my usual outfits without compromising my personal style.

I found this pair of sneakers online and I like that they are both sleek and neutral enough to match with easily, yet far from boring with the neon pink accents and a touch of forest green. I love throwing them on with jeans when I'm going out to do errands since they feel less like running shoes and more like a conscious fashion choice. Today I wanted to dress them up even more with faux leather and edgy style. I chose the leather leggings since they too are a glammed up version of a sporty style. On top a simple tee and cute jacket provide a neutral background to let the printed bag pop. I had to join the furry pom pom trend this winter, I think they are so cute and a fun way to jazz up your bag game.

This outfit would be so chic with boots, but with the sneakers it's more relaxed and casual while still fitting my style.

Jacket: Nordstrom (similar 1/2/3). Tee: Michael Stars. Leggings: Lysse. Sneakers: New Balance (on major sale!). Bag: Kate Spade. Fur Pom Pom: similar 1/2/3/4. Bracelet: J. Crew. Necklace: Dogeared

Spotlight on J. Crew Jewelry

J. Crew Jewelry Fall '15

Have you seen the glitzy line of J. Crew jewelry currently on their website? Their recent collections are stunningly beautiful. Every time I go to their site to find links for my blog posts I am blown away by the vibrant and glittering collection. Full of rich rainbow hues, glittering gems, and statement silhouettes, you can't help but be drawn in by them! I have always loved their jewelry selections, and the vivacity of these pieces is no exception. Any of these would make a great finishing touch to a simple dress with heels, or to dress up a cute blouse and jeans combo.

While I would take any of these gems in a heartbeat, the deep teal hue in the top left pieces is a winner in my book. Blue has always been a favorite color of mine! It matches so easily with most other colors in any season. Which of these pieces would you pick?

J Crew iridescent necklace, $175 / J Crew sequin necklace, $200 / J Crew colorful jewelry, $200 / J Crew crystal statement necklace, $185 / J Crew colorful jewelry, $135 / J Crew cuff bangle / J.Crew crystal stud earrings, $40 / J.Crew earrings, $47

Street Style

To wrap up my Fashion Week recount, here are more street style shots from the second day I spent hanging around the Fashion Week events! It was so hard to choose which photos to include, since over all, two days of shooting, I got about 350 photographs of people at the Lincoln Center for NYFW! That sounds a little creepy, but it's really the culture of the event, everyone has a camera out ready to snap pics of their favorite looks. I'm loving the two yellow-toned looks above: one floral and fancy, the other minimalistic and mod.

More full skirts, neutrals with pops of color, minimalist looks, crop tops, cute shoes, cut-outs, patterns, contrasts, and great colors were spotted that day. Which of these looks inspires you??

Paparazzi

If you enjoy people watching, like I do, New York Fashion Week is one of the most interesting times and places to do it. While I dream of getting into a show one day, there is something to be said for just hanging out outside the venue as everyone comes and goes from the shows. It's a crazy scene: people taking pictures of people taking pictures, cameras snapping everywhere, and everyone is all dressed up in their Fashion Week best. It really feels like you're surrounded by paparazzi, are the paparazzi, and also find people snapping pictures of you! Needless to say I got a ton of great photos of interesting people and inspiring outfits. I even spotted one of my favorite bloggers there! I'm sharing some of my favorite snapshots from my first day at the Lincoln Center.

I love the bright colors and full skirts that so many of these ladies incorporated into their outfits. There were tons of lovely black and white outfits as well, and stunning shoes left and right. Everything from bold to feminine, florals and funky prints, fancy dresses and casual ensembles. My favorite outfit by far though is the one below left, the full blue midi skirt with orange heels, a casual Paris t-shirt and a leather jacket. The color combination is to-die-for, and I think she mixed dressy and causal, feminine and edgy so perfectly. Although, the floral matching skirt set is a close second. Which look is your favorite?

And, did I mention that I saw one of my favorite bloggers, Mary Seng of Happily Grey (above), just outside the event??! I should have gone up and introduced myself (damn!), but I chickened out and snapped this pic instead. I love her outfit, as always!

Country Mouse, City Mouse

Big news! The Little Orange Dress has moved to New York City!! And me along with it of course.

To start this adventure off right I am bringing you a city-inspired outfit today, featuring my first (and so far only) purchase in the city, this ruffle tee. It's a shame that summer is winding down just as I found this tee because it is definitely at the top of my favorites list right now. Its loose fitting silhouette is perfect for those hot days when you don't want anything clingy against you skin, and almost every day I've been in New York has been like that! And then the drop-waist peplum ruffle is just too cute not to want to wear it all the time.

Since this country mouse knows very little about city life I've been keeping my eyes peeled and observing the city dwellers and taking note of their styles of dress. There are so many interesting people in the city, and so many different fashion statements to be seen! To compliment my own outfit I donned black shorts and a rosy statement necklace with simple sandals so that I was comfortable for a casual outing but wouldn't get lost in the crowd!

Tee: H&M. Shorts: Forever 21. Necklace: J. Crew (similar in black, similar, similar). Sandals: DV via Saks Off 5th. Clutch: J. Crew (similar). Bracelets: Ruche, Zulu Grass.
