Monochromatic Pink

One of the recent projects for my certificate course was to create an editorial-style photoshoot using an iPhone to experiment with different filters and techniques. Starting with some inspiration searching and creating a mood board I came up with the idea of a monochromatic look with a bold and playful vibe. Being both the photographer and model can be super tricky so I decided to shoot the photos in my apartment using my pink couch as the color inspiration. The arch lamp and brick background make this an interesting dynamic space for a photoshoot.

I found some deep pink pieces in my closet to go with the couch and create a monochromatic look. I wanted a playful vibe so I put my hair up in a high bun and added layers of jewelry and a bold pink lipstick. Then I experimented with using different filters in my iPhone camera and trying different poses. While the photo quality is nothing close to usable for an actual editorial, I had fun with the project and learned about the camera settings on my iPhone camera. For this shoot I ended up liking the "Fade" and "Chrome" filters best because of how they played with the colors and saturation.

These are a few of my favorites photos from the project!

Paparazzi

If you enjoy people watching, like I do, New York Fashion Week is one of the most interesting times and places to do it. While I dream of getting into a show one day, there is something to be said for just hanging out outside the venue as everyone comes and goes from the shows. It's a crazy scene: people taking pictures of people taking pictures, cameras snapping everywhere, and everyone is all dressed up in their Fashion Week best. It really feels like you're surrounded by paparazzi, are the paparazzi, and also find people snapping pictures of you! Needless to say I got a ton of great photos of interesting people and inspiring outfits. I even spotted one of my favorite bloggers there! I'm sharing some of my favorite snapshots from my first day at the Lincoln Center.

I love the bright colors and full skirts that so many of these ladies incorporated into their outfits. There were tons of lovely black and white outfits as well, and stunning shoes left and right. Everything from bold to feminine, florals and funky prints, fancy dresses and casual ensembles. My favorite outfit by far though is the one below left, the full blue midi skirt with orange heels, a casual Paris t-shirt and a leather jacket. The color combination is to-die-for, and I think she mixed dressy and causal, feminine and edgy so perfectly. Although, the floral matching skirt set is a close second. Which look is your favorite?

And, did I mention that I saw one of my favorite bloggers, Mary Seng of Happily Grey (above), just outside the event??! I should have gone up and introduced myself (damn!), but I chickened out and snapped this pic instead. I love her outfit, as always!

Red, White, and Blue

A little inspiration for the 4th of July, which is coming right up on Friday! Can you believe it's July already? I hardly can! I also can hardly believe I have anything red in my closet to work with for this outfit! I do not wear much red, since I tend to gravitate towards blues, pinks, and pastels. I actually have a red and white striped dress that I thought about using but it's more of a fall weather dress and I didn't know what to wear as the blue with it. Anywhoo, there is plenty of blue and white in wardrobe so this outfit came together pretty easily. The color-block styling seemed appropriate for a patriotic holiday, and truth be told I am always looking for ways to wear these bright red pants. The 4th seemed like the perfect excuse!

I am planning to get away for a few days to spend the 4th with my family and watch the fireworks. Do you have any big plans?

Summer Peplum

What is better for summer than an adorable sleeveless peplum top and bright colored jeans? I'll be honest I was very skeptical of the peplum trend for a very long time, but when I tried on this top last summer my mind was changed. It has such nice structure, and a beautiful scooped back. I also love that the stripes change angles as the circular part of the peplum goes around the body. The fabric is super comfy, and I love that the black stripes are a very soft charcoal color so it is not too harsh for summer.

I got these darling shiny silver shoes last summer to go with my bridesmaid dress in a friend's wedding. She asked us to get silver shoes, and I was specifically told I was not allowed to get heels (because I would tower over everyone else in the wedding haha), but I wanted to get something with a slight wedge that I would be able to wear again. These sandals fit the bill. I have worn them many times since the wedding and I love the laser cut details at the heel. They are so unique and yet classic at the same time.

How lovely is it that the lilacs are blooming! They smell so nice when the breeze blows as I am sitting on my deck. I really love this time of year.

p.s. I didn't realize until I was uploading these photos that I wore a very similar version of this outfit a few months back, with some more seasonal substitutes. Funny how the combinations we love keep coming back around :)
