All Black … Almost

As a resident of NYC I feel like I am beginning to embrace the infamous all-black look… but with my own little twist of course: I always add a little pop of color. Here, it's the red sleeves on this charcoal-black cashmere sweater. (I posted a pic on my instagram recently of another all black look adorned with a bright scarf). I can't seem to stay away from color! Baby steps, people, baby steps. I also bundled up in my oversized evergreen scarf in an attempt not to freeze to death while taking photos!

I've been on the hunt for the perfect pair of OTK boots for a while now, and I finally found exactly what I was looking for: these boots are a matte black (not shiny!) and have a practical silhouette with a slight heel. They actually come above my knee (barely! tall girl probz…) and the heel is nice and thick for comfortable walking all day. And with a little saving up they were within my price range! We all know I'd love a pair of Stuart Weitzman's, but a girl can dream, right?

Matchy Matchy

I had a stranger on the street ask me if my favorite color was purple, since my jeans and puffer matched so well! I had to laugh, for though the colors do look very similar next to each other (whoops), the jeans are more of a burgundy-red to my eye.

I am not usually a fan of being super matchy matchy, I try to avoid wearing the same shade on top and bottom, and I often have a lot of different colors going on in my outfit. Today though I ended up pairing matching oatmeal colored top layers with rich wine-hued jeans and jacket. This color scheme is fairly neutral, but not entirely colorless! A fun polka dotted bag, sassy ring, and gold leaf earrings help to keep the look anything but boring. Btw, this oversize flowy top has been on repeat lately. It is super comfortable and easy, and pairs perfectly with leggings as well as jeans!

Just after I finished up taking photos it started to snow giant beautiful snowflakes! Wouldn't that have been pretty to capture.

Fashionable Winter

It's that time of year again! You guys seemed to love my street style shots from September Fashion Week, so I had to share the ones I snapped this week too. I only stopped by the Lincoln Center briefly because it was SO COLD out, but even so I saw some lovely outfits and statement making coats. As I mentioned on Monday, it seems the key to styling an appropriate outfit for February Fashion Week is by building it around a stylish coat. There were so many gorgeous fur coats and printed coats to be seen, mostly paired with heeled booties and beautiful handbags. Some of my favorite looks are the two colorful printed coats, and the retro all-white look is very on point too.

I Wish

This is what I would have worn to February Fashion Week if I were cool enough to get into a show (lol). Layers make it easier to stand the frigid temps, and serious booties keep my feet from freezing as I navigate snowbanks. I went with a neutral palette incorporating shades of light brown, and then added a pop with a statement necklace. I have been wearing a lot of neutrals lately for some reason, I guess they're comforting and warming when it's this freezing. These cognac colored booties are adorable and high heeled, yet extremely functional too with their hiking-boot soles.

I think the key to surviving February Fashion Week is to have a statement making coat to keep you warm without sacrificing style. That's something I think I'll need to invest in! A double layered wrap-scarf did help to keep me from freezing though!

If my hair looks like a mess, that's because it was SO WINDY and ridiculously cold. Also, the buildings behind me are totally stealing the show… I honestly didn't even check to see if my photos were coming out ok, I just took them as fast as possible and ran to warm up again! brrrr!

Galentine's Day

Valentine's Day is for spending time with the people you love and adore, so I'm planning to hang out with my best girl friends this year. I wanted to share the dress I'll be wearing to get in the spirit, because who doesn't like an excuse to get dressed up? This beauty has been in my closet for a while waiting for the perfect occasion, and I think there couldn't be a better one than Valentine's Day. It is a touch dressy with the shiny gold neckline and hot pink color, but it is made of a super comfy material with pockets and buttons up the back, which makes it perfectly suited to watching movies on the couch with my besties. The peter pan collar creates a sweet touch that is complimented perfectly with a metallic belt. If you're looking for an outfit to wear out for a romantic dinner, I added girly accessories to the look, but for work I'm going to pair this dress with heart tights and booties instead of heels.

P.S. this dress is still available, and it's only $24.00!!

Dress: Tulle (more cute options 1/2/3). Belt: Target: similar. Cardigan: Banana Republic (similar). Bag: Street Level (similar). Heels: Bandolino via TJ Maxx. Bracelet: Kate Spade.

Cupcakes & Dresses

I couldn't resist sharing more photos of my mini blogiversary celebration, because the cupcakes were just so darn cute (and delicious)!! Today, February 6th, is the real LOD "birthday" but since it was a Thursday last year, it seemed ok to start celebrating a day early :)

This dress is the perfect little party dress; it has a simple silhouette but fancy details in the stacked lace neckline. Plus, it's orange! Perfect for the occasion. A touch of cozy yet glam fur was necessary too, since it is still winter after all! The cupcakes were so tasty, and a perfect way to celebrate making it one year! I just love how the light blue frosting pops agains the orange dress.

Dress: Ruche (similar 1/2/3). Faux fur wrap: Urban Outfitters. Cupcakes: Magnolia Bakery NYC.
