Frog Prince - Review

By no means would I consider myself any sort of expert when it comes to makeup: au contraire. While I have my daily makeup routine that I love (mostly BareMinerals btw) I know I still have a lot to learn. But, when I discover something new and interesting, like this Frog Prince lipstick by Lipstick Queen, I of course have to share it with my readers!

My mom actually introduced me to this fascinating lipstick when she gifted it to me on my birthday! I had my gift waiting patiently in its wrapping for my birthday morning so I could open it before I left to catch a plane to California. It is always nice to have a little something special to mark the day even if you can't fully celebrate that day (sitting on a plane all day in my case). Anyway, I'll be honest I was a bit confused when I opened it and found a lipstick in a deep green shade. As it turns out, this intriguing lipstick goes on clear and changes automatically to your best natural lip shade. Using the pH in your skin as a guide it shifts to a shade that compliments your skin tone. I thought that was such a fun idea, not to mention totally useful! No more having to hope a shade will work on you, because you know this one will! On me it turns to a soft sheer reddish-pink, just enough punch of color while still looking natural. It is the perfect color to wear during the day or for a casual event that just needs a touch of something special.

I love that they went with such a fun whimsical theme calling it "Frog Prince" alluding to its changing qualities and 'perfect match' characteristics, and then shaded it in a froggy green! The box is  just so cute too with a castle scene and lounging frog on the side. Overall, I am really enjoying this color as a great everyday lip shade to brighten up any look. I definitely recommend giving it a try!

Simple

One of my favorite rainy day outfits involves these polka dotted pants paired with any matching top. The deep navy and off white of the pants fit the mood of a rainy day, while the dots add a touch of fun. With all the rainy weather we've had the past two weeks in New York I just had to pull them out of my closet! I've worn them with chambray in the past, but this time I matched them with a simple grey tee shirt, silver sandals, and dainty flashes of jewelry, like these new triangle earrings.

Casual, comfortable, simple, and fun. Thats the way I like my rainy days.

Remix: Sweater Blues

I wore this sweater a few weeks ago with a lacy tank peeking out from the bottom, but this time I decided to stick with the blue color scheme and play with some print. Adding a cute silky floral tee underneath gives a more playful look than the textured lace did. Plus the tee shows a bit at the neckline giving a casual layered effect. The first time I featured this sweater the look was a bit feminine and glam, but this remixed style is more playful and relaxed. Sleek black boots and gold jewelry keep a simple background for the floral print to really pop. A new 'do also helps to mix up the look!

Chambray for Anything

You know those times when you're going to an event or place you've never been to before and you don't know how dressy or casual you should dress? This was one of those times. My friends and I were going to a late night comedy show, and I really had no idea what was appropriate to wear. Do people get dressed up for these events? Like going-out dressed up, or nice and classy dressed up? Or, is it like a bunch of comedians casually hanging out kind of vibe, in which case I don't want to feel overdressed?

To try and dress for that anything can be very hard, but I did my best by creating this cute skirt and chambray combination. I ended up loving the result. The skirt can be dressy, with the touch of gold stripes, but I kept it grounded with a causal white tank and chambray tied over it. Thats the beauty of a chambray shirt, they can really go with just about anything, and add a casual touch to skirts and dresses. The long necklace added interest and tied the whole look together. In this outfit, I'm ready for anything!

Fashion (Week) Footwear

After I'd had a taste, I couldn't resist stopping by the NYFW festivities again for a few hours, before the week came to a close. I just loved drinking in the culture of the event and seeing all the awe-inspiring outfits. I switched gears from my girly white dress on my first visit, to funky heels and coated black jeans for this second trip down town. I balanced the edgy bold black with a light pink peplum top and sparkly earrings to soften the look. I also tried something different with my hair: parted in the middle so the darker color shows, and pulled back into a low bun. I'm not sure I love it, but hey, Fashion Week is a great time to try something new, am I right? These heels were the cornerstone for this outfit since they epitomize New York fashion in my mind, and I can't wait to wear them again and again.

More street-style shots to come :)

Birds Of A Feather

Why is it that everything is more fun in the summer? People seem to be happier this time of year and life is easier when the weather is warm and cooperative... A friend and I took some time this week to enjoy that ease and do a little local exploring. That included a cheese, wine and maple syrup tasting, perusing cute local shops and a delicious dinner sitting outdoors. For a casual Sunday outing this bird dress supplied just the look with its pale peach hue and cheery bird print. The vintage belt, from my grandmother, compliments the silhouette and the metallic shoes enhance the girly color scheme. It was funny that on the day I chose to wear this belt (I don't wear it often because it is tight!) we happened to spend some time exploring in a vintage clothing shop!

This dress is so easy to wear during the summer, but it also transitions between seasons easily since the color is so versatile. You may have seen this dress on Pinterest styled with a jacket and booties, and it would also be adorable with tights and a chunky fall scarf, and I've worn it similarly layered up as well. (I love when I see things I own on Pinterest, don't you?!)

When In Doubt...

When in doubt, wear white jeans. That is my advice for the summer months, advice that I tell myself again and again on those mornings where I can't decide what to wear and no outfits seem to come together. Suddenly, getting dressed is so much easier! White jeans, or even white shorts, go with literally everything and are more summery and sophisticated than regular jeans so they are an easy choice when you have to throw something on quickly in the morning.

With a cute top in a summery hue and some easy complimentary jewels, I can get ready in a flash and look put together. White jeans with a colored top becomes a staple combination that I rely on throughout the summer months when I can't decide what to wear, and it always ends up looking chic!

This particular outfit was a favorite of mine last summer. I don't often wear the same exact outfit twice (with so many options in the closet I hate to pick favorites), but this one has been worth coming back to, even a year later. With a few clouds in the sky, my natural waves, and a smile, I am delighted to welcome this little heatwave we've been having!
