Chambray for Anything

You know those times when you're going to an event or place you've never been to before and you don't know how dressy or casual you should dress? This was one of those times. My friends and I were going to a late night comedy show, and I really had no idea what was appropriate to wear. Do people get dressed up for these events? Like going-out dressed up, or nice and classy dressed up? Or, is it like a bunch of comedians casually hanging out kind of vibe, in which case I don't want to feel overdressed?

To try and dress for that anything can be very hard, but I did my best by creating this cute skirt and chambray combination. I ended up loving the result. The skirt can be dressy, with the touch of gold stripes, but I kept it grounded with a causal white tank and chambray tied over it. Thats the beauty of a chambray shirt, they can really go with just about anything, and add a casual touch to skirts and dresses. The long necklace added interest and tied the whole look together. In this outfit, I'm ready for anything!

Fall Hues

Ok, I'm admitting defeat and letting fall colors seep into my outfits. It's still been warm enough for sandals and skirts most days, but with a bit of a fall crispness to the air that has even the most reluctant of us (me) switching gears towards a fall wardrobe. Even with bare legs and toes the colors in this combination are ones I plan on bringing well into October with me. I've been so excited to wear this olive green skirt, because I just love the way it fits. I've been favoring a-line skirts with movement and twirl to them recently and this one is definitely becoming a staple in my closet. Also it has pockets: we all know how much I love pockets.

And a word about these shoes: I've had my eye on them all summer but tried to be money-concious so I didn't even let myself try them on. Then I found out I had a credit on Rue La La that was about to expire, so I went on their site and, lo and behold, these sandals were available on sale for $40. What a good day that was!  Happily they've been super comfortable for a day of traversing Central Park. Plus, how perfectly do the sandals and the bag match?!

I tried a few new makeup tips today from the very talented MaskCara blog (if you haven't seen her blog you should really check it out, she does amazing makeovers). What do you think?

Little Black Bows

I wore this outfit a few weeks ago in early September, on a sweltering hot day shopping downtown. I was helping a friend to find a bridesmaid dress in some of the department stores on the East Side and I wanted to wear something that was both comfortable, breathable, and fashionable. This full skirt makes a sweet statement, especially when paired with bow accessories, like the belt and Kate Spade bag. I chose a basic black tank to let the pink really pop, and it also gave the look a bit of a ballerina twist. Animal print sandals with a touch of pink, plus some gold and pink bracelets balanced all the black and added some fun detail.

Skirt: Club Monaco (similar, also cute). Top: Target. Belt: B-Low the Belt (similarsimilar). Bag: Kate Spade. Sandals: Sam Edelman.

Street Style

To wrap up my Fashion Week recount, here are more street style shots from the second day I spent hanging around the Fashion Week events! It was so hard to choose which photos to include, since over all, two days of shooting, I got about 350 photographs of people at the Lincoln Center for NYFW! That sounds a little creepy, but it's really the culture of the event, everyone has a camera out ready to snap pics of their favorite looks. I'm loving the two yellow-toned looks above: one floral and fancy, the other minimalistic and mod.

More full skirts, neutrals with pops of color, minimalist looks, crop tops, cute shoes, cut-outs, patterns, contrasts, and great colors were spotted that day. Which of these looks inspires you??

Fashion (Week) Footwear

After I'd had a taste, I couldn't resist stopping by the NYFW festivities again for a few hours, before the week came to a close. I just loved drinking in the culture of the event and seeing all the awe-inspiring outfits. I switched gears from my girly white dress on my first visit, to funky heels and coated black jeans for this second trip down town. I balanced the edgy bold black with a light pink peplum top and sparkly earrings to soften the look. I also tried something different with my hair: parted in the middle so the darker color shows, and pulled back into a low bun. I'm not sure I love it, but hey, Fashion Week is a great time to try something new, am I right? These heels were the cornerstone for this outfit since they epitomize New York fashion in my mind, and I can't wait to wear them again and again.

More street-style shots to come :)

A Fall Sale

Since I was somewhat negligent of the blog in early September, I'm going to make up for it now by inundating you with lots of posts! This week is already jam packed with exciting blog posts (just wait!) but I had to share this exciting news with you too: my favorite online boutique Ruche just launched their Fall Lookbook and are having a celebratory sale as well! You get $50 off orders of $150 or more with the code FALL50 until 9/19. What a great way to start the Fall season! Plus, look at how cute these outfits are. I'm so in love with that blue skirt and embellished sweater combo, it's just so sweet.

Have I mentioned before how much I love the Ruche lookbooks? They are so impeccably done and full of darling details and whimsical moods that give me so much inspiration and a longing to work in the fashion world! If you haven't before, you should browse their lookbook archives. My personal favorites are Tea for Two and En Pointe for the etherial feelings they produce and the flawless fashion.

All images are from the Ruche Fall '14 lookbook, Autumn Glow.

Happy shopping!

Paparazzi

If you enjoy people watching, like I do, New York Fashion Week is one of the most interesting times and places to do it. While I dream of getting into a show one day, there is something to be said for just hanging out outside the venue as everyone comes and goes from the shows. It's a crazy scene: people taking pictures of people taking pictures, cameras snapping everywhere, and everyone is all dressed up in their Fashion Week best. It really feels like you're surrounded by paparazzi, are the paparazzi, and also find people snapping pictures of you! Needless to say I got a ton of great photos of interesting people and inspiring outfits. I even spotted one of my favorite bloggers there! I'm sharing some of my favorite snapshots from my first day at the Lincoln Center.

I love the bright colors and full skirts that so many of these ladies incorporated into their outfits. There were tons of lovely black and white outfits as well, and stunning shoes left and right. Everything from bold to feminine, florals and funky prints, fancy dresses and casual ensembles. My favorite outfit by far though is the one below left, the full blue midi skirt with orange heels, a casual Paris t-shirt and a leather jacket. The color combination is to-die-for, and I think she mixed dressy and causal, feminine and edgy so perfectly. Although, the floral matching skirt set is a close second. Which look is your favorite?

And, did I mention that I saw one of my favorite bloggers, Mary Seng of Happily Grey (above), just outside the event??! I should have gone up and introduced myself (damn!), but I chickened out and snapped this pic instead. I love her outfit, as always!
